The History program at Central State University empowers students to resist ignorance and disinformation about the crucial roles and contributions of Black people across global and U.S. history. In each course, we strive to confront the present crisis of state-sponsored denial of African American history education in the United States. Our faculty are devoted to employing classic and emerging historical arguments and research in the classroom every day in pursuit of truth and justice. We equip CSU students to engage in sophisticated conversations about the past and its bearing on today’s problems for the rest of their lives. 

The Bachelor of Art in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) is a student-centered degree option that empowers you to build your own major with English, Philosophy, History, and Communications courses that best fit your interests and professional goals. To alleviate the financial burden of higher education, IDS also uniquely offers multiple fully textbook-free pathways.

Philosophy is the study of the evolution of human understanding and the history of ideas. This minor compliments any major, providing you with a strong base in the soft skills that employers and graduate schools are looking for: critical thinking, problem solving, and global cultural awareness. 

In the Gender and Sexuality Minor, you will study the history of public understandings of gender and sexual issues and be empowered to articulate a clear sexual ethic in both academic settings and the workplace.

Immerse yourself in a dynamic 19-21 credit journey that begins with the fascinating Intro to Africana Studies and Intro to Studies in the Humanities courses.
