Assessment and Accreditation
Central State University’s Department of Professional Education is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for a period of seven years, from 2019-2026. The following programs were included in the 2019 CAEP review:
- Early Childhood Education
- Intervention Specialist Education Mild/Moderate (K-12)
- Middle Childhood Education
- Integrated Social Studies, Math, and Language Arts (grades 7-12)
- Life Science, Physical Science (grades 7-12)
- Music Education (grades PK-12)
Since the 2019 CAEP Review, the Department of Professional Education and Music has expanded Education Preparation Programs by adding Agricultural Education and Physical Education.
The Ohio Department of Higher Education approves all teacher preparation programs offered at Central State University.

The Department of Professional Education is committed to providing state-accredited licensure degrees for the educator preparation program.
CAEP Accountability Measures
Measure 1: Completer Impact and Effectiveness

Graduate employers are surveyed annually to rate their Impact and Effectiveness in the classroom.
Measure 2: Satisfaction of Employers and Stakeholder Involvement

The stakeholder program evaluation survey is completed by cooperating teachers who mentor student teachers and work directly with the Education Preparation Program.

Central State provides an opportunity for P-12 partners to present to EPP candidates on campus to discuss opportunities, explore career opportunities, and recruit candidates for open positions. Data is not currently available for 2020-2021. This instrument was piloted in 2021-2022 and will be validated for AY 2022-2023.

Measure 4: Ability of completers to be hired in Education Positions for Which They Have Been Prepared

Third Party Comments
The Department of Professional Education at Central State University is hosting an accreditation visit by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) on November 18, 2026. Interested parties are invited to submit third-party comments to the evaluation team. Please note that comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of professional education programs offered and should specify the party’s relationship to the provider (i.e., graduate, present or former faculty member, employer of graduates).

Such comments must be within the specified period and based on the core tenets of CAEP accreditation standards of excellence, which recognize that:
- In CAEP’s performance-based system, accreditation is based on evidence that demonstrates that teacher candidates know the subject matter and can teach it effectively so that students learn. In the CAEP system, EPPs must prove that candidates can connect theory to practice and be effective in an actual P-12 classroom
- A professional education provider that is accredited by CAEP is expected to be involved in ongoing planning and evaluation; engaged in continuous assessment and development; ensure that faculty and programs reflect new knowledge, practice, and technologies; and be involved in continuous development in response to the evolving world of education and educational reform.
- Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of professional education programs offered, and should specify the respondent’s relationship, if any, to the institution (i.e., graduate, present or former faculty member, employer of graduates). Copies of all correspondence received will be sent to the university for comment prior to the review.
