Manufacturing Engineering

Innovate. Design. Manufacture.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Manufacturing Engineering (MFE) at Central State University is a four-year degree program designed to prepare students for careers in modern manufacturing, engineering design, and advanced production technologies. As one of the limited numbers of undergraduate programs nationwide dedicated specifically to manufacturing engineering, the program provides a comprehensive educational foundation that combines engineering principles, technical expertise, and practical problem-solving skills.

A Comprehensive, Industry-Focused Curriculum

The Manufacturing Engineering curriculum integrates mathematics, basic sciences, engineering sciences, humanities and fine arts, and social and behavioral sciences to provide students with a well-rounded educational experience. Students develop a strong foundation in mathematics, including coursework through Differential Equations, while gaining the technical knowledge and analytical skills essential to manufacturing engineering.

Specialized coursework focuses on four core areas:

  • Materials and Manufacturing Processes: Explore engineering materials, their properties, and the manufacturing processes used to transform raw materials into finished products.
  • Process Assembly and Product Engineering: Develop an understanding of product design, manufacturing operations, assembly processes, and engineering principles that support effective production.
  • Manufacturing Productivity and Quality: Examine approaches to improving manufacturing efficiency, product quality, process performance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Manufacturing Integration Methods and Systems Design: Study the integration of manufacturing processes, technologies, and systems to support coordinated and efficient production operations.

Emphasis on Engineering Design and Technology

Throughout the curriculum, students develop engineering design and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on computer applications in manufacturing. By connecting engineering theory with design principles and technology-driven approaches, the program prepares students to analyze manufacturing challenges, develop innovative solutions, and contribute to advancements in modern manufacturing.

Through its interdisciplinary curriculum and focus on engineering design, Central State University's Manufacturing Engineering program provides students with the technical foundation and professional preparation needed to pursue opportunities in manufacturing, product development, process engineering, quality improvement, and related engineering fields.

This revision uses a professional, prospective-student-focused tone consistent with the Environmental Engineering program content. It emphasizes the program's distinctive focus, core curriculum, engineering design, and career preparation while organizing the information into clear, web-friendly sections.

The four curriculum areas are retained from the original description, with expanded explanations to help prospective students understand what they will study.

Exceptional program

  • The overall Manufacturing Engineering curriculum consists of strong components of mathematics, basic sciences, engineering sciences, humanities, and social sciences.

Environmental Engineering

The International Center for Water Resources Management at Central State University was formally created by the State of Ohio by H. B. 171 in 1987. The law stipulated that the Center shall develop methods to ”improve the management of water resources of Ohio and emerging nations” (Ohio Revised Code: 1987 Legislation, Page 504). This mission is directly linked to that of the University in offering programs with multi-cultural and global perspectives with particular emphasis on African and African American cultures; collaborating with other educational institutions, business organizations and government agencies to enrich learning experiences and educational opportunities for students; and in providing quality educational programs in the scientific technical fields where minorities have been traditionally underrepresented.

Academic Programs at the Center

The Center now contains one academic program of Environmental Engineering (ENE). Students obtain baccalaureate degree in this field. It is now possible also to obtain a minor in Water Resources Management. With these programs of study, the Center is the focal point for environmental related studies at Central State University.

Exceptional Program

  • Environmental Engineering curriculum consists of major components of mathematics (through differential equations and statistics), basic sciences, engineering sciences, humanities & fine arts, and social & behavioral sciences.
