CSU Chorus

Lifting Our Voices

Active on campus and around the world, the Grammy-nominated CSU Chorus is Central State pride. The ensemble of some 50 voices has performed everywhere from President Barack Obama’s White House to China and Spain. And acclaimed singers including opera star Leontyne Price and jazz singer Nancy Wilson got their start with the CSU Chorus.

All the Right Notes

Guided by Dr. Carlos B. Brown with the motto “Dedication, Passion, Discipline and Excellence,” the Central State Chorus highlights the contributions of Black composers and arrangers and has a repertoire spanning Bach, jazz, gospel and rock. Its audiences include congregations, schools and, in 2022, the chorus performed gospel songs at a Dayton correctional facility, bringing a message of hope to incarcerated women.

When not touring, rehearsing or performing on campus, the chorus records and releases inspiring albums, most recently Renaissance
