Central State University is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Edward "Eddie" L. Wingard, one of the University's longest-serving academic leaders, who served as dean of the College of Education from 1969 to 1992. Dr. Wingard passed away on July 11, 2026, at the age of 89.

Central State University has been recognized as the No. 1 fastest-growing historically Black college or university in the nation by Learn.org, a college resource website focused on helping students save time and money in the college selection process.

A Presidential Scholar and Honors College biology major, Kollie has immersed himself in research—from studying cardiac membrane integrity to examining the antibacterial properties of Hibiscus sabdariffa.
