Join Central State University Land-Grant for an exciting day at Central State University's Open House and Research Facility Groundbreaking on Friday, April 28th at 10 a.m.!

Explore the beautiful Research Farm Field and Botanical Garden while learning about our innovative research projects. Discover Extension’s work throughout Ohio with interactive displays. Witness the groundbreaking ceremony as we embark on a new chapter in our land-grant mission. This event is open to everyone, so bring your friends and family for a fun-filled day of learning and discovery.

Central State University Extension, YOU ARE INVITED, April 28 Land-Grant Open House, Research Facility Groundbreaking, Land and Farm Tours, ROTC Obstacle Course, Food Demos, 1400 Brush Row Road, Wilberforce, Ohio 1890 Land-Grant Programs at Central State University
  1. Parking will be in front of the Norman E. Ward, Sr., Center. Enter campus at the Main Entrance on State Route 42. Follow the signs to the large parking lot to the left of the traffic circle.
  2. Shuttle vans will be available to take you to the registration area and the tour stops in the Seed to Bloom Botanical and Community Garden and the CSU Research and Extension Farm.
  3. The groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. and will be followed by lunch.
  4. Shuttle vans will be available to take you to main campus after lunch to tour research labs, interactive displays, and a mini-job fair.

Tours of Research and Extension demonstration plots and sites

The Groundbreaking will commence near the tent, which will be in place to keep the ground dry in the event of rain. Throughout the day there will be tours of the various areas.

Each tour stop will feature a researcher and Extension professional discussing the application and implementation of the research for farmers in Ohio.

    • Cover crops and soil health research
    • Corn genetics research
    • Hemp research
    • Sweet potato trials
    • Perennial research
    • Bee genetics and bee yard tour
    • Robotic and artificial intelligence research with raspberries
    • SUSHI aquaculture and hemp project
    • Seed to Bloom Botanical and Community Garden Ground Breaking Ceremony (1 2-12:30 p.m.)
    • Interactive Extension Exhibits and Lunch (12:30 – 1:30 p.m.)
  • Tours of research labs will feature the researcher and technicians to discuss activities in the lab and how the research is applicable to farms in Ohio. Health and nutrition interactive activities will emphasis the importance of health for farmers.
    Tour stops and activities include:

    • Soil science and testing lab
    • Reptile and forest wildlife lab
    • Air quality measuring and testing lab
    • Water hydrology and treatment lab
    • Get Moving and Eat Healthy interactive exhibits at tent and CSU Extension Mobile Food Kitchen
    • Health screenings at the CSU Extension Mobile Health Education Unit (MHEU)
    • “Ask the Expert” at the MHUE with CSU Nutrition researchers
    • ROTC Obstacle Course
    • Job Fair in CENS Rotunda (1:30 – 3:30 p.m.) Featuring open positions with CSU Land Grant with Extension and Research positions
