A Presidential Scholar and Honors College biology major, Kollie has immersed himself in research—from studying cardiac membrane integrity to examining the antibacterial properties of Hibiscus sabdariffa. Now, he is channeling those experiences into a new purpose: authorship. His new book, Navigating the American Dream, captures the resilience behind his path as an international student from Liberia and his desire to guide others walking similar roads.

Kollie explains that his inspiration stemmed from wanting to support students facing unfamiliar systems. “Many students encounter similar obstacles but often lack a clear roadmap,” he says. “The book is both practical and encouraging.”

His own transition from Liberia in West Africa to the U.S. was far from easy, and that honesty shapes the heart of Kollie’s message.

Transitioning to college proved especially pivotal. Reflecting on his early struggles, Kollie says, “I realized that my silence was holding me back… that turning point made me realize many immigrant students face the same hidden challenges.” Those lessons became the foundation for his writing.

As readers turn the pages of his memoir, Kollie hopes one theme shines brightest. “Success… is built not only on resilience and hard work but also on discipline and observing the rules and regulations that guide life in the U.S.” That balance — courage and responsibility — anchors his advice for new international students.

Just as meaningful, Kollie highlights the importance of cultural adaptation and academic perseverance. “Adapting… is not about perfection,” he writes. “It’s about persistence, openness, and the courage to keep moving forward.”

Kollie isn’t stopping here. His next project, The Pathway to Success, expands on these principles with a broader lens.

“My hope is that this book will serve as a roadmap, for students, young leaders, and professionals striving to make a meaningful impact.”
