Central State University President, Morakinyo A. O. Kuti delivered an inspiring message at the 41st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Celebration on Jan. 15, urging Ohioans to reflect on purpose, service and justice while honoring the legacy of the civil rights leader.

In his remarks, Dr. Kuti focused on Dr. King’s enduring question to young people and future leaders: “What is your life’s blueprint?” Drawing from Dr. King’s 1967 address, Dr. Kuti emphasized the importance of self-worth, strong character, excellence and a lifelong commitment to service.

“Dr. King challenged every generation to live with purpose and integrity,” Dr. Kuti said. “That challenge remains just as urgent today.”

Dr. Kuti reflected on his own journey from arriving at Central State as a 17-year-old international student to becoming the university’s 10th president. He highlighted the transformative power of education and reaffirmed his commitment to positioning Central State as a destination for discovering and maximizing human potential.

The celebration also featured awards presented in multiple categories to honorees recognized for their community impact. Students participating in the statewide MLK oratorical contest delivered speeches that drew strong responses from attendees.

The full ceremony, including Dr. Kuti’s address and student presentations, is available for viewing on The Ohio Channel.
