Central State University Named Nation’s Fastest-Growing HBCU by Learn.org

Central State University has been recognized as the No. 1 fastest-growing historically Black college or university in the nation by Learn.org, a college resource website focused on helping students save time and money in the college selection process.

According to Learn.org’s 2026 report, “The 5 Fastest-Growing HBCUs in the Country,” Central State earned the top ranking based on a review of academic and career resources, quality of education, faculty, and additional data from the National Center for Education Statistics, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The report found that Central State “has seen the largest student body growth of an HBCU in the country, with an enrollment increase of 131% over five years.”

The recognition highlights a period of sustained growth and momentum for Central State, Ohio’s only public historically Black university. The University has continued to expand its academic offerings, student support services and campus opportunities while strengthening its commitment to academic excellence and student success.
