Marauders heading to Alabama for prestigious HBCU competition

Get ready to cheer on the Central State University Marauders during an exhilarating competition as Central State University gears up to participate in the National Qualifying Tournament of the 35th Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), the most prestigious academic contest for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) students.

The competition will pit four-student teams against one another in a thrilling head-to-head battle, where they must quickly answer questions about history, science, literature, religion, math, the arts, pop culture, and sports. Derrick Wilson, Nya Brunson, KeVonn Rayford, and Lois Ofori will represent Central State University and put their knowledge to the test in this high-stakes contest.

Central State is among the 64 teams competing for institutional grants from Honda and a coveted spot in the HCASC National Championship Tournament. The tournament will be held on the American Honda corporate campus in Torrance, California, from April 6-10, 2024.

This year's HCASC is a year-round program that celebrates Black excellence and showcases the academic talents of top HBCU students from across the country. It challenges participants to broaden their knowledge on a wide range of topics while helping develop their leadership and collaboration skills. Students compete against some of the brightest minds from other HBCUs, network, build camaraderie, and gain mentorship opportunities with HCASC alums.

What's more, Honda will provide more than $500,000 in institutional grants to the participating HBCUs, with many of the schools utilizing the grants to fund student scholarships. Since its establishment in 1989, over 170,000 scholars have competed in HCASC. So, be ready to witness an exciting competition where exceptional minds will come together to showcase their knowledge and skills.
