Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP™)

Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. People with uncontrolled diabetes can develop diabetes complications including stroke, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, blindness, foot ulcer, and diabetic neuropathy.

Simple lifestyle changes to control diabetes and prevent serious health problems by attending a DEEP series. Topics include: diabetes risk factors, diabetes complications, foot care, meal planning and healthy eating, stress management techniques including physical activity, medications and self-health monitoring.

Freedom from Smoking

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and death in the United States. Smoking can cause cancers, lung diseases, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other serious illnesses. Smoking harm nearly every organ of your body. Smoking cessation decreases the risk for smoking-related illnesses and can add years to your life.

Freedom From Smoking® program can help you set a quit date, build a quit plan, and become tobacco-free.

Vaccinate with Confidence

Promotion of the CDC vaccination programs to increase the well-being of Ohio communities.

 

Financial Literacy

FDIC Money Smart

The FDIC Money Start programs help manage financial resources through the life span. Programs are offered for youth, young adults, as well as adults and seniors

Mastering “Adulting” After Moving Out

This program teaches important tips and lessons that prepare young adults for independence as an adult. This four-week series covers topics such as the apartment hunting process, home maintenance, what to do in emergency situations, financial literacy (loans, credit reports, choosing a bank, etc.), maintaining relationships, time/stress management and more.

Healthful Eating Through the Lifespan

Nutrition education programs address making wise food choices, food safety, resource management, label reading, and physical activity. Programs target both youth and adults

Childhood Obesity, “Let’s Get Turned Up and Turn it Around”

This program’s focus is on educating youth on childhood obesity: defining what child obesity is, how it occurs, and what kids can do to prevent it from happening. The program includes kid friendly cooking demonstrations and dancing for fitness and fun.

Eat Smart, Live Strong – Nutrition Education for Older Adults

Eat Smart, Live Strong is a four-session program to promote specific eating and physical activity behaviors that are shown to improve health and well-being. The behaviors addressed in the sessions are: eat at least 3 1/2 cups of fruits and vegetables daily and participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days. The sessions focus on goal setting each week and addressing real and potential barriers to achieve the new behaviors.

Food Preservation and Value-Added Foods

Food preservation programs focus on home food preservation, food safety and storage. Topics include, freezing; canning, both low and high acid foods; dehydrating; jams and jellies; as well as pressure canner gauge testing.

Value-added food programs address cottage foods and commercial canning for increase economic well-being.

Food Safety Training

In addition to home food safety, Food Safety and Sanitation programs for Person-in-Charge; Manager’s Certificates also provided.

Parenting

The Chicago Parent Program is a 12-session evidence-based parenting program created for parents of young children (2-5 years old) and designed to meet the needs of a culturally and economically diverse audience.

 

Mental Health

Trauma-Informed Care Approach

Becoming “trauma-informed” means recognizing that people often have many different types of trauma in their lives. People who have been traumatized need support and understanding from those around them. Often, trauma survivors can be re-traumatized by well-meaning caregivers and community service providers. The Ohio Trauma-Informed Care Approach project seeks to educate our communities about the impact of trauma on clients, co-workers, friends, family, and even ourselves. Understanding the impact of trauma is an important first step in becoming a compassionate and supportive community.

QPR – Question, Persuade and Refer

The QPR mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. The signs of crisis are all around us. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.
