Engaging diverse communities and transforming lives

The mission of Central State University Extension (CSUE) is to be a premier community-based outreach and educational program leader that provides a holistic Extension approach to improve the overall conditions facing families in rural and urban communities and address agricultural issues in rural and urban locations.

What we do

CSUE has four main programs: 4-H Youth Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Community and Economic Development, and Family and Consumer Sciences.

4-H Youth Development

Our 4-H STEM-Ag Youth Development programs provide education that creates youth pathways to success in individual and group projects; local and county fairs; state and national trips; science fairs; and various day, week, weekend, and resident camps.

These program areas align with the 4-H mission mandates; citizenship, healthy living, and science. These program areas complement the 4-H focus areas of head, heart, hands, and health to provide youth diverse opportunities for development of their social, citizenship, leadership, and critical thinking skills through the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Agriculture (STEM-Ag).

Agriculture and Natural Resources Program

As an 1890 Land-Grant Institution, Central State University is focused on outreach and education for underserved and underrepresented populations in urban and rural areas. The Agriculture and Natural Resources Program develops, conducts, and promotes programs to create sustainable farms — farms that are good stewards of the environment, improve the quality of life for the farmer and the community, and are profitable to enable the farm to be available for future generations.

Our Agriculture and Natural Resources staff from throughout Ohio is available to assist with further information regarding Extension programming, resources, and upcoming events. Check out event postings and resources for agriculture and natural resources.

Community and Economic Development

Our Community and Economic Development efforts seek to empower communities to achieve their goals through education and technical assistance. With a focus on agriculture and economics in urban and rural communities, the primary aim of this program is to address community development and revitalization, local economic development, and small business development.

Our Community and Economic Development Staff is available to assist with further information regarding Extension programs and events, including Office Hour Live.

Family and Consumer Science

Our Family and Consumer Science programs provide education in the areas of health and nutrition, childhood obesity, family relations, and financial literacy. These programs impart knowledge and provide practical applications to build stronger families and communities and address issues related to families and communities, such as obesity, financial readiness, infant mortality, and degradation.
