The photo of Brian Kampman, Vegetable and Small Fruit Crops Technician for Central State University (CSU) Extension, as he proudly stands in front of a floral display cultivated at CSU has been buzzing on social media sphere. A special source of pride are the "Elephant Ears," which he cultivated in the CSU greenhouse from seed. Elephant Ears, aka Colocasia, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Aceae, native to southeastern Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Stop by Emery Hall on the beautiful Wilberforce, Ohio, campus of Central State University and take a photo next to this stunning display. It's pretty, Brian!

A CSU student jazz group that started practicing in the Seed to Bloom Botanical Garden eventually had some of its members become work-study garden helpers. This summer, they took their jazz music to the Garden. Their musical journey so far has led to a meeting with jazz great Wynton Marsalis and a contest for the NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

Briscoe and others presented their studies on July 27 at the 2023 CSU Bee Research Symposium, organized by Hongmei Li-Byarlay, research assistant professor of entomology. View photo gallery.
