The Financial Literacy Workshops are mandatory for any student receiving institutional aid.
We welcome and encourage all students to attend these workshops as they will offer guidance in making sound financial decisions.

Institutional aid includes any funding granted to a student by the university. For example: all athletic aid, choir, band, Residence Hall Advisors, Auxiliary, departmental scholarships, etc.

If you plan on receiving this aid for the following year, you must attend four (4) Financial Literacy workshops this academic year to receive the funding the upcoming year.


 

Scholarship Opportunities



Continuing Student Scholarship, formally known as Upperclassman Scholarship
Description: Academic Merit based scholarship to continuing students with 30 or more credit hours by the end of Spring Semester each year. The 30 credit hours are to be earned during the fall and spring semesters only of each academic year.

Award Amount: $1,000 - up to $3,000
Eligibility: For students who did not receive the Freshman Scholarship or Transfer Student Scholarship, the Continuing Student merit based scholarship is awarded based on completion of the Central State University Continuing Student Merit Based Scholarship application. This scholarship is not automatically renewed, but requires students to reapply each year. To be considered, students must meet the following criteria:


Example: Student received the Continuing Student Merit Based Scholarship in the previous academic year (spring and fall). Student completed FAFSA by December 1, 2018. Current year. - Student completed 15 credit hours for Fall and 16 credit hours for Spring which brings the academic year total to 31 credit hours. Cumulative GPA for student is 3.1 –No previous back balance. Student is eligible to apply for the scholarship via the established criteria. Based on the chart below the award amount would be $1,000.

Freshman Scholarships are in the following amounts to students who meet the corresponding criteria:

The scholarships are renewable for up to three years based on a student’s academic performance. Students are considered upon admission to the University.


Transfer Scholarships
Transfer Scholarships are in the following amounts to students who meet the corresponding criteria:


Academic Scholarship Awarded to Transfer students. The transfer scholarship is awarded based on the number of credit hours a student is transferring into the university. A student is required to have a minimum of 31 credit hours to be considered for the Transfer Scholarship.


Eligibility: For scholarship consideration a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed and on file with the University. Students may file a FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Central State University’s school code for the FAFSA is 003026. It is recommended that students and families file their income taxes prior to completing the FAFSA, however, students may complete the FAFSA beginning October 1 with estimated tax amounts. After filing taxes, students may go back and enter the correct tax information. The FAFSA priority deadline is December 1 of the year prior to entering the University. International students will be required to submit a copy of their I-20 in lieu of the FAFSA.

The scholarships are renewable for up to three years based on a student’s academic performance. Students are considered upon admission to the University.


Students who receive a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and earn at least 30 semester hours will be eligible for a scholarship up to $3,000 in line with the continuing student scholarship criteria.


Students are automatically considered for these scholarships with a completed Central State University Application, FAFSA, and an Official College Transcript.


Reminder: When the FAFSA is completed, students are encouraged to contact the Office of Financial Aid to identify other potential resources for financial assistance.

National Alumni Association Scholarships
The General Alumni Association is offering Central State University students a scholarship of a $1000. Students must have at least a 2.5 minimum cumulative G.P.A, be entering into their junior or senior year, and be involved in at least one activity at Central State University.

The Atlanta Alumni Chapter is offering Central State students from the Metro Atlanta area a scholarship of $1000. Students must have at least a 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA and be entering into their sophomore, junior, or senior year at Central State.


Cincinnati Alumni Chapter Scholarships

Betty and Richard Shepherd Scholarship
The Betty and Richard Shepherd Scholarship was established in 2017 for current Central State University students. Students must have completed one year at Central State University, be a first generation college student, have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and submit a short essay.

Michael Lloyd Pye Scholarship Foundation for Students from the State of Michigan
The Michael Pye Scholarship was established to encourage college students to pursue their educational dreams and to achieve educational success in the area of mathematics or education. The Michael Lloyd Pye Scholarship Foundation wishes to continue Mr. Pye’s ideology, steadfastness, fondness for education, and his love of mathematics, by making this scholarship available to Central State University students from Michigan.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund
TMCF offers four types of unique scholarships that are merit, plus need-based designed to address the financial needs of students attending TMCF member-schools. The awards process is highly competitive and the awards are given to outstanding and qualified students who plan to earn a baccalaureate, graduate or law degree from an accredited college or university. Occasionally, we may offer scholarships to students not attending on of our member-schools. TMCF is able to award scholarships that are designed to complement the financial aid students receive from other sources for tuition and other education expenses, such as books and housing.
