Central State University
The CSU Legacy

The Campus

From a single brick building the Central State University campus has grown to encompass 30 buildings and a physical plant valued at about $105 million.

Student life revolves around the residence hall complexes, one of which was Students in Foundation Hall II loungecompleted in 2002. Another, a $9 million, 380-bed coed facility, opened in Fall 2004. A new day care center was completed in 2003, and construction of a new academic building began in Winter 2005. A new student union is also on the drawing board.

The Hallie Q. Brown Memorial Library, which includes a Media Instructional Services Center, is an integral part of the Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK), an electronic catalog system that serves 85 member institutions, linking them through integrated local and central catalogs, research databases, and statewide document delivery services. Library users may also initiate library loans directly via the library's workstations without staff intervention. Daily van service among the member institutions assures delivery of requested items within 3-5 working days.

Athletic facilities include the Walker Gymnasium, which includes a state-of-the-art fitness center and weight room; the Beacom-Lewis Gymnasium; tennis and racquetball courts; and the McPherson Stadium.

The beautiful CSU campus is graced by lawns, flowering shrubs, trees and The Sunken Gardenflowerbeds. It is centered by the attractive Sunken Gardens. Spacious paved walkways make foot travel across the campus easy and convenient.

Adjacent to the campus is the University's outdoor education area, a natural reserve, and within a hundred yards of the Robeson Center is the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, an outstanding facility that chronicles Black history and sponsors a variety of programs.
