Welcome Letter from the Chair

After fifteen years of dedicated and transformational leadership, John Garland in September announced that he will retire as president of Central State University in June 2012. The Board of Trustees has launched the search for the next president of this fine institution. President Garland’s record of achievement at Central State is substantial and the foundation for our next president is strong.

As we celebrate our 125th anniversary, the Board of Trustees embarks on this important moment in the institution’s proud and distinguished history with the goal of hiring a President for Central State University who will move us forward on our mission to academically prepare students with diverse backgrounds and educational needs for leadership and service in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.

The Board of Trustees has named a Presidential Search Advisory Committee to work with our search consultants, Greenwood/Asher & Associates and the board in conducting this national search. The 10-member Presidential Search Advisory Committee is broadly representative and includes representation from the student body, faculty, alumni, foundation, members of the community as well as members of the Board of Trustees. The Presidential Search Advisory Committee is co-chaired by Trustee Della Green and General Alumni Association President Fred Grigsby, Jr.

This website is the source for all information and updates regarding the presidential search. Members of the university community and interested members of the public are invited to consult it to learn of new developments as the process moves forward.
