Central State University will be holding an orientation meeting for incoming freshmen and current Central State University students on Today, Monday, April 14, 2008 for cheerleaders/stuntmen from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and for flags/majorettes from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Athletic Hall of Fame Room at the Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
Following the orientation meeting, on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 and Wednesday April 16, 2008, there will be clinics for any student interested in being a cheerleader/stuntmen or a member of the flags/majorettes team. And on Friday, April 18, 2008, there will be auditions for students interested in joining the teams. “These students represent the student body as entertaining groups, perform designated routines, stimulate school spirit, develop and cultivate good social relationships, and set high standards of character and behavior for the students of Central State University. The team members will have the opportunity to grow, learn, develop and come together as a team,” said Sylvia Kelley, Cheer and Dance Director at Central State University.
The dance team (Belles and Black Diamonds) will hold an orientation meting on Monday, April 21, 2008 in the Athletic Hall of Fame Room at the Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium. And dance clinics will be held Tuesday, April 22,2008 through Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium. Auditions for the dance team will be Friday, April, 25, 2008 at 5 p.m. In the Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
The cheerleaders/stuntmen, flags/majorettes and dance team can qualify for partial scholarships providing the member has a 2.80 GPA (cumulative). The teams have had considerable success over the years. In 2003, the cheerleaders and the dance team won the first place championship at the Mega Cheer & Dance Championships in South Carolina.
