Dr. A. Toy Caldwell-Colbert, former Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs passed away March 12, 2008, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after battling cancer. She was 56 years old. Caldwell-Colbert had been for just a few short months Dr. Terrance Glass has now taken her place. Friends say Caldwell-Colbert was an asset to Central State University having new ideas and implementing them. She was an outstanding leader bringing in 20 new faculty members to work to improve academic moral. Communicating within the department was important to her because she wanted to work extremely hard in achieving higher education for the students.
“Dr. A. Toy Caldwell-Colbert initiated professional dress Wednesday,” Administrative Assistant Kinya McBeth-Williams said. She thought it would be a good look for our students to dress every Wednesday in order to better prepare us for the real world. That was one of Dr. A. Toy Caldwell-Colbert better ideas she put into effect here at Central State University. Wearing slacks, a tie, and dress shoes every Wednesday helps us out as students, so we can get used to dressing professionally. She was a true professional in assuring that the university followed this particular policy.
Although she is gone, Caldwell-Colbert will be missed by family, friends, faculty, and students. Her family has established a scholarship in her name, funeral services were held Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Champaign, Illinois.
