Two Central State Championship Hoop Teams Inducted into Hall of Fame

1965 and 1968 NAIA National Men’s Basketball Championship teams will be inducted into the State of
Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame
on
May 17, 2008
.
The 1965 team led by Coach William Lucas and Assistant Norman Ward won the championship with a perfect 30-0 record on the season. They were the first team on any national collegiate level to win a tournament for a National Championship with a perfect record. They have previously been honored in the National Basketball Hall of Fame in
Massachusetts
.
Members of the team were Charles Colbert, Jr., Darius Cunningham,
Rob
ert Hunt, Ed Couts, Ed Bryant, Ted Day, Kenny Wilburn, Tim Avery, Avery Godrey, Ed Waller, Terry Taylor,
Clarence Lane
and Jerome Tillman.

The 1968 team also coached by Lucas and Ward consisted of
Chris Buchanan, Paul Bullard, Roy Hinton
, Norman Lee,
Rob
ert Moore
, Joseph Morris
, Sterling Quant, Graham Russell, Leon Singleton, Allen Thigpen. They finished with a record of 29-4 and led the NAIA in
scoring defense allowing only 55.6 points per game.
The induction dinner will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center at
7:00 PM.
