Marauders Snap Losing Streak with OT Win

            The Central State Marauders found themselves in an overtime game for the third game in a row but this time the results were different as the prevailed 86-80 over the visiting Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State University.

 

            The Marauders found themselves down early as the Cardinals hit their first five shots of the game and jumped out to a 22-4 lead early in the game. The Marauders fought back and closed the gap to 22-20 when the Cardinals went on another run and extended their lead to 34-24 at half time.

 

            Saginaw Valley used the three pointer to help build their lead as they hit 6 of 14 in the first half while CSU hit only two three pointers.

 

            In the second half Saginaw and Central State both came out strong but CSU continued to chip away at the Cardinals lead and finally tied the game with 5:47 remaining on a foul shot by Gino Smith and took the lead by one 68-67 on Smith’s second free throw.

 

            The Marauders had a chance to win the game in regulation when Robert Harris was fouled with 4 seconds remaining in the game and the Cardinals had a one point lead 73-72. He hit the first free throw but missed the second forcing   over time.

 

            In the overtime period the score was tied 80-80 with 1:31 remaining in the period and then CSU scored the final 6 points to insure the victory.
