Currently CSU student workers and volunteers are the heart of the program. They work with individual or pairs of students. In addition to offering academic support, our volunteers have become friends and role models to the students. We began accepting applications from CSU students in September 2007 for this year’s program. At the tutoring center, located in room 122 Wesley Hall, students build skills in reading, science, math, social studies, foreign language, math, get help with homework, skill building, and strengthen their sense of self-esteem and self-respect.
There are 12 students registered for the program, and more than 10 workers and volunteers committed to serving the needs of Xenia school children. The Center is open in Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The tutoring center has 17 Mac computers on site. For many of our students, these computers play a crucial role in their success at school, since most don't have computers at home. We rely on our IT office and student volunteers to help us keep these computers up and running to ensure student and staff access.
Project Succeed is administered by the College of Arts and Sciences, where Dr. Willie Houston, Dean serves as the Director of the Program. Recently, Project Succeed partnered with the University under the Title III Activity 4: K-16 Higher Education Access. To broaden its outreach, the program has established the following objective:
To collaborate with five local and regional community partners in development of four outreach programs designed to increase under-represented elementary and secondary students’ academic preparedness and access to higher education.
