HBCU Activities


Program Description


As a result of the initiatives to grow Central State University, Title III funds are critical to the overall mission of the university. Each proposed activity is aligned with the University’s 2014-2020 Strategic Plan. CSU plans to use $1,960,712 of Title III funds in GY1 in support of the following five (5) activities:

 

  • Activity 1: Project Administration, Evaluation & Institutional Assessment (HBCU/SAFRA)
    This activity falls under the Title III LAA Category Funds management, administrative management, and acquisition of equipment for use in strengthening funds management under the Focus Area Institutional Management. $272,885 is requested for this purpose.
  • Activity 2A: Strengthening Student Services and Outcomes through Improving the Capacity of the Undergraduate Student Success (USSC) and Counseling Centers
    This activity falls under the Title III LAA Category Tutoring, Retention, and student service programs designed to improve academic success, under the Focus Area Student Services and Outcomes. $513,657 is requested for this purpose.
  • Activity 2B: Strengthening Student Services and Outcomes through Improving the Capacity of the Undergraduate Student Success Center and Counseling Centers
    This activity falls under the Title III LAA Category Tutoring, counseling, and student service programs designed to improve academic success, under the Focus Area Student Services and Outcomes. $219,482 is requested for this purpose.
  • Activity 3: Strengthening Academic Quality through Improving the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment
    This activity falls under the Title III LAA Category Academic instruction in disciplines in which Black Americans are underrepresented, under the Focus Area Academic Quality. $364,726 is requested for this purpose.
  • Activity 4: Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of Professional Development Program for Health and Legal Professions
    This activity falls under the Title III LAA Category Academic instruction in disciplines in which Black Americans are underrepresented, under the Focus Area Academic Quality. $207,450 is requested for this purpose.
  • Activity Title 5: Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of the Music Mentors
    This activity falls under the Title III LAA Categories enhancing a program of teacher education and establishing community outreach programs which will encourage elementary and secondary students to develop the academic skills and the interest to pursue postsecondary education, under the Focus Area of Academic Quality. $72,512 is requested for this purpose.
  • Activity 6: Strengthening Student Services and Outcomes through Development of the Teacher Education Advisement and Partnership Center
    This activity falls under the Title III LAA Categories enhancing a program of teacher education, under the Focus Area of Academic Quality. $310,000 is requested for this purpose.


Title III, Part F Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA)

As a result of the initiatives to grow Central State University, SAFRA funds are critical to the overall mission of the university. Each proposed activity is aligned with the President’s Six Compelling Priorities. CSU plans to use $772,906 of the Title III funds in GY3 in support of the following four (4) activities, which will support the CDP goals of improving academic quality and increasing enrollment.

  • Activity Title 1: Strengthening Academic Quality through Development of the Center for Global Education
    The University will utilize $183,997 in SAFRA funding to support the development of a Center for Global Education that will include creation of a Foreign Language Lab.
  • Activity Title 2: Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of Online Learning Central State
    University seeks to enhance the development and offering of online courses to improve academic quality and grow enrollment, utilizing $416,445 in SAFRA funds.
  • Activity Title 3: Strengthening the Academic Programs through Enhancement of the Theatre Arts Program
    Central State continues its effort to improve academic quality, continued development of the Theatre Arts program through Opera Workshop and improvements to the University’s performance space will utilize $101,354 in SAFRA funds.
  • Activity Title 4: Strengthening the Institution through library books, periodicals, and other educational materials, including telecommunications program material
    As Central State prepares for regional accreditation as well as other academic programs the Hallie Q. Brown Memorial Library must maintain current and appropriate materials for the use of students, faculty and staff. $71,110 in SAFRA funds were allocated for this activity.
