HBCU Activities 2012-2013


As a result of the initiatives to grow Central State University, Title III funds are critical to the overall mission of the university. Each proposed activity is aligned with the Speed-to-Scale, Strategic Academic Enrollment Management (SAEM) and Board of Regents of the State of Ohio Plan for Central State University initiatives. CSU plans to use $1,984,362 of Title III funds in GY1 in support of the following six (6) activities, which will support the CDP goals of improving academic quality and increasing enrollment:

 

Activity 1 Strengthening Institutional Management through Title III Project Administration

The Project Administration activity is the administrative link of the University’s Title III, Part B Strengthening HBCUs Grant Program. $245,000 is allocated for this purpose.

 

Activity 2 Strengthening Fiscal Stability through Improving the Capacity of the Office of Institutional Advancement

The Division of Institutional Advancement intends to improve and strengthen the knowledge and skill sets of its primary staff as well as to update the technology used by the Division of Institutional Advancement to increase the overall fundraising capacity and financial stability of the University. $184,000 is requested for this purpose.

 

Activity 3 Strengthening Student Services and Outcomes through Improving the Capacity of the University College and the Counseling Center

Efforts by Central State University to improve the academic success of all students include a comprehensive intervention and retention initiative fostering collaboration between the University College and the Counseling Center. $900,362 has been allocated to support this effort.

 

Activity 4 Strengthening Academic Quality through Improving the Capacity of the Office of Academic Planning & Assessment

The Office of Academic Planning and Assessment (OAPA) at Central State University was created in the spring 2012 to support the University, academic colleges and departments in activities that enhance institutional effectiveness. $385,000 has been allocated for this activity.

 

Activity 5 Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of the Pre-Law and Pre-Professional Graduate School Development Program

This Activity will seek to increase minority interest and entry into professional graduate school programs. $195,000 is allocated for this activity.

 

Activity 6 Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of the Music Mentors Program

The purpose of the activity is to strengthen the pedagogical skill sets of Central State music students through the Music Mentors community outreach program. $75,000 in Title III funds will support this activity.

 

Title III, Part F (Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act-SAFRA)

As a result of the initiatives to grow Central State University, SAFRA funds are critical to the overall mission of the university. Each proposed activity is aligned with the Speed-to-Scale and Strategic Academic Enrollment Management (SAEM) plans. CSU plans to use $848,986 of Title III funds in GY3 in support of the following six (6) activities, which will support the CDP goals of improving academic quality and increasing enrollment:

 

Activity 1 Program Administration

Central State University will use $5,000 in SAFRA funds to facilitate program evaluation through the Title III Program Administration function.

 

Activity 2 Strengthening Academic Quality through Development of the Center for Global Education

The University will utilize $180,000 in SAFRA funding to support the development of a Center for Global Education that will include creation of a Foreign Language Lab.

 

Activity 3 Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of Online Learning

Central State University seeks to enhance the development and offering of online courses to improve academic quality and grow enrollment, utilizing $210,000 in Safra funds.

 

Activity 4 Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of the Theatre Arts Program

As Central State continues its effort to improve academic quality, continued development of the Theatre Arts program through the Opera Workshop and improvements to the University’s performance space will utilize $189,991 in SAFRA funds.

 

Activity 5 Strengthening Academic Quality through Development of the University College Learning Center

As Central State continues its growth toward optimum size, the development of a University College Learning Center will enhance academic quality and provide programming and services to assure the success of entering students. CSU is using $117,904 in SAFRA funding to conceptualize and plan for this Center.

 

Activity 6 Strengthening the Academic Quality through Development of the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment

As Central State builds capacity to serve students, the development of the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment, $182,380 in SAFRA funds will provide needed coordination of academic planning and program assessment to improve quality.
