HBCU Activities 2016-2017


Title III Part B Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)

As a result of the initiatives to grow Central State University, Title III funds are critical to the overall mission of the university. Each proposed activity is aligned with the President’s Six Compelling Priorities. CSU plans to use $2,063,966 of Title III funds in GY 5 in support of the following seven (7) activities, which will support the CDP goals of improving academic quality and increasing enrollment.

Activity Title 1: Strengthening the Institution, through Title III Project Administrative

The Project Administration activity is the administrative link of the University’s Title III, Part B Strengthening HBCUs Grant Program. $274,909 is allocated for this purpose.

Activity Title 2: Strengthening Fiscal Stability through Improving the Capacity of the Division of Institutional Advancement

The Division of Institutional Advancement intends to improve and strengthen the knowledge and skill sets of its primary staff as well as to update the technology used by the Division of Institutional Advancement to increase the overall fundraising capacity and financial stability of the University. $52,570 is allocated for this purpose.

Activity Title 3A: Strengthening Student Services and Outcomes through Improving the Capacity of the University College and the Counseling Center (3B)

Efforts by Central State University to improve the academic success of all students include a comprehensive intervention and retention initiate fostering collaboration between the University College and the Counseling Center. $765,000 has been allocated to support this effort.

Activity Title 4: Strengthening Academic Quality through Improving the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment
The Office of Academic Planning and Assessment (OAPA) at Central State University was created in the spring 2013 to support the University, academic colleges and departments in activities that enhance institutional effectiveness. $401,487 has been allocated for this activity.

Activity Title 5: Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of Pre-Law and Pre-Professional Graduate School Development Program

The Office of Pre-Law and Pre-Professional Graduate School Development will seek to increase minority interest and entry into professional graduate school programs. $210,000 is allocated for this activity.

Activity Title 6: Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of the Music Mentors Program
The purpose of this activity is to strengthen the pedagogical skill sets of Central State music students through the Music Mentors community outreach program. $50,000 is allocated to support this activity.

Activity Title 7: Strengthening Student Services and Outcomes through Development of the Teacher Education Advisement Partnership Center

The Office of Teacher Education Advisement Partnership Center (TEAP-C) is designed to specifically respond to the needs of pre-education majors who need to meet the requirements for full admittance to the College of Education. $310,000 is allocated for this activity.

Title III, Part F Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA)

As a result of the initiatives to grow Central State University, SAFRA funds are critical to the overall mission of the university. Each proposed activity is aligned with the President’s Six Compelling Priorities. CSU plans to use $794,771 of the Title III funds in GY2 in support of the following five (5) activities, which will support the CDP goals of improving academic quality and increasing enrollment.

Activity Title 1: Program Administration Central State University will use $1,500 in SAFRA funds to facilitate program evaluation through the Title III Program Administration function.

Activity Title 2: Strengthening Academic Quality through Development of the Center for Global EducationThe University will utilize $186,104 in SAFRA funding to support the development of a Center for Global Education that will include creation of a Foreign Language Lab.

Activity Title 3: Strengthening Academic Quality through Enhancement of Online LearningCentral State University seeks to enhance the development and offering of online courses to improve academic quality and grow enrollment, utilizing $449,554 in SAFRA funds.

Activity Title 4: Strengthening the Academic Programs through Enhancement of the TheatreAs Central State continues its effort to improve academic quality, continued development of the Theatre Arts program through Opera Workshop and improvements to the University’s performance space will utilize $99,000 in SAFRA funds.

Activity Title 5: Strengthening the Institution through library books, periodicals, and other educational materials, including telecommunications program material. As Central State prepares for regional accreditation as well as other academic programs the Hallie Q. Brown Memorial Library must maintain current and appropriate materials for the use of students, faculty and staff. $58,604 In SAFRA funds were allocated for this activity.
