Central State University
SUMMER HONORS INSTITUTE
THINK OF THE
INGREDIENTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SUMMER
Ingredient 1: YOU!
You know you
want to succeed. You are thinking of a career, maybe several.
You want to know what college is like, even before you
graduate from high school. You work hard in school and
take pride in your academic achievements. You will be
in the 10th or 11th grade during the 2004-2005 school
year. You enjoy making new friends and working on projects
with others who share your interests.
Ingredient 2: THE SUMMER!
This summer,
you can take the next step toward your future. Spend time
living, studying and making new friends on the campus
of Central State University, in the culturally rich and
beautiful setting of Southwestern Ohio.
Ingredient 3: THE PROGRAM!
The Summer
Honors Institute is a three-session program; each session
is one week long. Students may apply to participate in
one or more of the sessions, as described on the next
page. The program features courses and workshops in art,
music, writing, critical thinking, print journalism, broadcasting,
test-taking skills, and African studies. Students work
closely with experienced college faculty to enhance their
skills as creative thinkers, writers, test-takers and
problem solvers. In addition, a variety of athletic and
social events is designed to complement the classes and
workshops to give participants the chance to grow both
intellectually and socially.
Utensils Needed: THE CAMPUS!
For over a
century, Central State has developed a tradition of excellence
in the education of students from all walks of life and
ethnic groups. Its alumni include a number of nationally
prominent persons in the arts, business, government, and
education. Located adjacent to the National Afro-American
Museum and Cultural Center, CSU offers a rich, multicultural
living and learning experience for students from all over
America and the world. Much of the university's current
research focuses on new and more effective teaching and
learning strategies. Many faculty are actively engaged
in research and creative projects. Summer Institute participants
will get to work with some of these faculty, as well as
learn in an environment rich with opportunities to expand
their intellectual horizons.
