none Identification of External Funding Sources

  • The OSP will maintain a library of newsletters, publications and electronic sources on funding opportunities.

  • The OSP subscribes to a computerized database (SPIN) with more than 7,000 public and private funding opportunities for higher education.

  • The OSP will develop a reference library and instructional materials related to external funding.

 

Identifying Faculty/Staff Interests

  • Compile a list of research and scholarly interests for all faculty and staff interested in external funding.

  • Match interests with potential funding sources.

  • Include profile data form in orientation package for new faculty and staff.

  • Develop a capability handbook for Central State University.

 

Faculty & Staff Grantsmanship Skills Development

  • Provide workshops on research marketing and sponsor development.

  • Provide workshops on policies and procedures related to contracts and grants.

  • Provide (using internal and external resources) training in proposal planning and writing.

  • Provide (using internal and external resources) training in project management.

 

Dissemination of Funding Information

The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research will gather, summarize and disseminate funding information to faculty, staff, departments, centers and colleges through the following mechanisms:

  • Quarterly newsletter on proposal submissions, awards and other funding related topics.

  • Monthly bulletin which will focus on upcoming opportunities and deadlines.

 

Liaison with Sponsors

  • Discuss upcoming proposals with funding sources.

  • Visit with sponsors and invite sponsors to Central State University.

  • Review and interpret program priorities, funding levels and eligible entities.

  • Follow up with submitted proposals and attempt to expedite their review.

 

Proposal Development and Budget Preparation

  • Consultation with faculty and staff on proposal drafts.

  • Technical assistance in completing application forms.

  • Proposal preparation guide.

  • Institutional fact sheet.

 

Proposal Processing and Authorization

  • Requests from external funding sources must be reviewed and approved by the OSP for adherence to University policies and funding agency guidelines.

  • The OSP will review and complete the necessary assurances for Institutional Compliance.

  • A proposal transmittal form must be submitted along with each proposal.

  • The OSP will obtain the necessary signatures from different administrative departments.

 

Proposal Transmittal

  • Make the required copies.

  • Forward the required copies to the funding agency.

  • Forward a complete signed copy to the PI.

 

Award Negotiation

  • Budgets.

  • Publication rights.

  • Indemnifications.

  • Patents and copyrights.

  • Licensing and royalties.
