Office of Academic Planning and Assessment


The Office of Academic Planning and Assessment (OAPA), created spring 2012, supports the University during the implementation of its strategic plan(s), working goals, and activities which support its strategic key objectives. OAPA is currently charged with the responsibility of facilitating the implementation of the Strategic Academic Enrollment Management (SAEM) Initiative; the goals of which include: (1) to improve academic quality and (2) to increase student enrollment.

The Associate Vice President of the OAPA works collaboratively with the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Deans of the Colleges (main campus and CSU-Dayton), to support academic departments during preparation for regional and specialized program accreditations. For instance, staff in the OAPA is currently leading Self-Study activities as the University prepares for the comprehensive regional accreditation visit by the Higher Learning Commission, scheduled April 2012, by the North Central Association.

The Assessment and Institutional Research office, in the OAPA, provides oversight on institutional data for internal and external audiences and other University stakeholders. It also provides data to support sponsored projects through Title III and other grants. The Director of Assessment and Institutional Research and the Associate Vice President in the OAPA work closely with the administration, the Senate Committee for the Assessment of Teaching and Learning, Deans, and Chairs to support on-going assessment of student learning outcomes at institutional program and course levels.

The Accreditation Liaison and Coordinator of Articulation coordinates agreements and academic partnerships with related activities between Central State University and other Universities and Community Colleges in the State of Ohio. Future plans are being developed to work closely with the Admissions Office staff, in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, to monitor the impact of these articulation agreements and partnerships on student enrollment and success.

Through the Online Learning Office and Faculty Development Offices, the OAPA backs teaching and learning by supporting instructional technology and on-going faculty development workshops, webinars and keynote speakers. The Associate Vice President and Directors of Online Learning and Faculty Development work closely to prioritize faculty development and training to enhance best practices in teaching and learning on the CSU campus.

As the University continues to strengthen the quality of its academic programs, to promote academic excellence and institutional effectiveness, the OAPA invites faculty and staff to utilize the services provided through our offices, namely:
