Welcome to Central State University Geology
Are you interested in solving real environmental problems while discovering how the earth works? If you are curious about the origin of life on our planet, how minerals, rocks and the Earth were formed and continue to transform, how water sculpts our complex Planet and the dynamics of other geological processes; then you are welcome to explore and learn with us in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE).
The undergraduate Geology program at Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio is the only one of its kind in the State of Ohio. The program offers a uniquely integrated course of study with a broad curriculum designed to prepare the student for solving environmental problems of today and into the future. It encompasses laboratory, and computational studies, field exploration aimed at better understanding both geological processes and the rock record. The program covers courses in geology, geophysics, water resources management, geography, remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). Geology involves the study of earth materials, earth processes, earth structure, and earth history through direct observation (e.g. examining minerals, identifying fossils, observing structural features such as layers, measuring the thicknesses of rock sequences, folds and faults, and measuring the thickness of rock sequences). Geophysics engages indirect observation of Earth’s physical properties through mapping and imaging of the subsurface acquired form magnetic, electrical, gravity and seismic measurements.
