Life after CSU

After graduating with “Cum Laude” honors from the WRM program at Central State University I achieved my Master's degree in Environmental Sciences (M.En.) from Miami University located in Oxford, Ohio. My graduating practicum topic: "On Road Mobile Source Air Pollutants (ORMSAP) Ranking and Rating Roads in the State of Ohio” This practicum project was done jointly between CSU and Miami University advisors, Dr. Ramini Kandiah (CSU) and Dr. Hays Cummins (Miami).

While at Central State University

In addition to being prepared academically, Central State University created a hunger for scientific knowledge. While at CSU, I spent 3 plus years working with Dr. Kumar Nedunuri on the research project “The Agronomic Optimization of Phytoremediation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons”. Within the first year of work on this project we began doing presentations at Scientific Symposiums throughout the United States. The research won numerous awards on the local, state and national level eventually led to a peer reviewed scientific journal article in The International Journal of Phytoremediation.

While at Miami

While at Miami I was Graduate research assistant on several projects, Miami Valley Stream Team, Bull Run Erosion, etc. I was also afforded the luxury of travel to Central America on 3 separate occasions. One was for a 3 week/5 credit hour course, Tropical ecosystems’ of Costa Rica in the summer of 2008. During the summer of 2009 I returned to Costa Rica as a teaching assistant on a similar course and later that same year I traveled to Belize and Guatemala to work on a humanitarian project that focused on clean drinking water for the local population.

Final Thoughts

I entered college at a much more senior age than the average student; I had an established work ethic which I used to discipline my study habits. I always made it a competition between myself and the younger students. I love winning and being first and I usually was.

Studying is the single most key to academic success. And more than that it is the one and only job a student has. All of the work that you put forth studying will pay off in the future.

Endeavor to persevere, adapt and overcome, never give up and never back down!

For God, For Central, For State!
