About the Department Manufacturing Engineering


The four-year BS degree program in Manufacturing Engineering (MFE) is one of few such programs in the nation which are dedicated to undergraduate manufacturing engineering education.  The Manufacturing Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.


The overall Manufacturing engineering curriculum consists of major components of mathematics (through differential equations and calculus III), basic sciences, engineering sciences, humanities & fine arts, and social & behavioral sciences, together with the engineering major requirements that can be grouped into the following topic areas:


Throughout the curriculum, emphasis is given to the engineering design function and computer applications.


Program Objectives

The mission of the Manufacturing Engineering Department has been formally defined as follows:

“The Manufacturing Engineering Department provides a quality education to a diverse student population who will be empowered to develop their full potential as engineers, leaders and citizens of a global society. The program provides the opportunity to demonstrate and apply knowledge successfully to meet engineering challenges, function competently in multidisciplinary teams, communicate clearly and effectively, listen keenly, and understand professional, legal and ethical responsibility. Graduates are enabled to contribute to the enhancement of the quality of life and wealth of society, their community, the manufacturing industry, and themselves, through full participation and leadership in the manufacturing enterprise.”


The Manufacturing Engineering Department at Central State University is dedicated to preparing students for manufacturing engineering careers in diverse manufacturing enterprises. The MFE Program expects the graduates within few years of graduation to attain the following:

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Manufacturing Engineering program are highly sought by prestigious firms and graduate programs. They have found challenging positions in production planning and management, quality assurance, product and process engineering/design improvement, manufacturing supplier training, facilities design, etc.


Some of the positions involve exciting international assignments in Japan, Korea, China, Mexico, and Canada. Employers include major corporations such as Caterpillar, Harley-Davidson, Goodyear, Kraft Food, Frito-Lay, Boeing, Proctor & Gamble and Duracell. Other graduates who have elected to pursue graduate engineering studies have received fellowships from prestigious universities such as MIT, Princeton, Michigan State, Rensselaer Polytech, Virginia Tech, University of Cincinnati, Howard University, University of Dayton, Wayne State and Wisconsin.

Additional Remarks & Information


Central State University offers a variety of financial aid packages and scholarships. Students may either commute or live in the residence halls on campus. Students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as varsity and intramural sports, student government, student professional societies, fraternities and sororities, and Army ROTC.


The metropolitan conveniences of Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus lie within 55 miles of the rural campus setting; pleasant recreational areas are nearby (one of the nation's finest bike path networks lies near the campus). CSU students enjoy strong support from the CSU alumni association and its successful and dedicated members who are spread across the entire United States.
