Dr. Syvillia Averett is currently an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Central State University. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2006 and earned both a master’s and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Iowa in 2008 and 2012, respectively. Her graduate work focused on the representation theory of an analogue of the special linear group over a ring with involution.
Dr. Averett also has a passion for mathematics education and serves on the Mathematics Education Committee at CSU. She is also the Online Program Coordinator in the department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Outside of the classroom Dr. Averett serves as a member of the Dayton Regional STEM School governing board. She is also a co-founder and organizer of the National Science Foundation(NSF) supported Underrepresented Students in Algebra and Topology Research Symposium (USTARS), a conference organized for graduate students in mathematics. She also serves as an undergraduate mentor in the National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences.
