Karen M.R. Townsend, Ph.D.

Townsend, Ph.D. is an inspiring speaker whose messages are timely and relevant. Dr. Townsend holds degrees from Kentucky State University, The Ohio State University and the University of Dayton. She also received specialized training in diversity education and inclusion from the International MultiCultural Institute. With expertise in leadership development, 21st Century Diversity and personal excellence, Dr. Townsend educates, motivates and inspires professionals across the country to be their best—both personally and professionally. As recognized subject matter expert, Dr. Townsend is a thought leader who has educated professionals at every level on the importance of not simply recognizing organizational diversity, but also leveraging the potential, the talent and the skills of each and every person. Dr. Townsend has written a number of articles on this topic which have been featured in local, regional and national publications and media outlets.
As an author and advocate for professional women, Dr. Townsend’s first book was inspired by her own quest to find life balance. It All Started When I Stopped Using Lotion: One Woman’s Journey From Chaos to Calm encourages women to “Take their TiME: Time for ME!” Organizations throughout the country are currently using “The Lotion Book” to support the professional development and career advancement of high potential women leaders. Her next book—Confessions of a Superwoman: Real Stories from Real Women about Real Life—will be released in 2018.
In recognition of her professionalism and commitment to community service, Dr. Townsend was named one of the 25 “Women to Watch” by Women in Business Networking, a “Woman of Influence” by the YWCA Dayton, named “Who’s Who in Dayton/Cincinnati (Ohio), and selected to the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels by the governor of her home state.
Dr. Townsend is married to Sylvester Townsend, Jr. and they are the parents of daughters Syron and KaeLyn.
