Ranger Challenge/Organization is considered the elite program of Central State Army ROTC. It consists of a nine-person coed team and represents the school's ROTC program in the 7th Brigade Ranger Challenge Competition that is held in FT Knox, Kentucky each fall semester. Its purpose is to develop esprit-de-corps, technical and tactical competence, physical fitness and leadership abilities of its participants. The competition test cadets in weapons handling and assembly, marksmanship, one-rope bridge assembly and crossing, orienteering, hand grenade assault course, The Army Physical Fitness Test, combat patrolling or knowledge of, and a ten-kilometer forced march with load bearing equipment, M16 rifle, Alice pack packed with a minimal amount of gear. The skills that one learns at Ranger Challenge will be useful as long as they are in the army, and this will be most apparent for those MS III's who go to The Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) each summer. Those cadets who have participated in the Ranger Challenge competition will have an advantage over their counterparts at LDAC. Being familiar with these tasks will breed confidence in yourself, which in turn will inspire those around you to follow. The Marauder Battalion finished first in Ranger Challenge this year. The Marauder Battalion Ranger Team in the past few years has become a major contender in the 7th Brigade Ranger Challenge while facing teams from Ohio and Kentucky.. The Ranger Challenge places 18 Schools with up to two teams per school in a competition that measures each teams physical capability, teamwork, and will to succeed. The Ranger Challenge Team is the number one way for a cadet to excel. Our teams start training for the event with the selection of the teams at the beginning of the year. They then spend the next couple of months honing their skills to be competitive at the Brigade Competition held in FT Knox, Kentucky .
