Facilities
Biology has a number of outstanding equipment items which are utilized in both teaching and research. Among these are a transmission electron microscope, a research grade stereoscopic microscope, multichannel recorders for monitoring a variety of physiological parameters, a time lapse photography and monitoring unit, autoclaves, laminar-flow hoods, computers for instruction, freeze dryer, and refrigerated centrifuges. A special laboratory is equipped with a built-in color television camera in order that students and/or visitors can see the experimental procedures by way of television sets placed appropriately in two lecture halls. An attached greenhouse houses plants for both teaching and research purposes. An outdoor education center, located between Wilberforce and Xenia, and a mature wooded preserve adjacent to campus, provide space for environmental instruction and research.
