Mervyn R. Joseph

Mervyn R. Joseph is an assistant professor of music education at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, with an emphasis in instrumental/general music education. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Arts in music from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, and a Doctor of Philosophy in music education from Indiana University-Bloomington. He has taught band and general music Grades K through 12) successfully for five years at Miami Union Academy in Miami, FL, and has also taught in the music education departments of Indiana University and Illinois Wesleyan University. He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), the College Music Society (CMS), and a faculty advisor to the collegiate chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, an international music fraternity. His research interests include music perception, urban teacher education, international music education, and the Black music aesthetic. Dr. Joseph has been published in the Southeastern Journal of Music Education.
