Ronald Claxton is an associate professor of art education at Central State University. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green with a B. A. in Art Education (1982). He received his Master of Arts in Education degree from Western Kentucky in 1984. Dr. Claxton previously taught art education and art appreciation at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro from 1985-97. In 1997 he received his Ph.D. in art education from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Claxton has served as a member of the Ohio Department of Education Arts Education Advisory Panel where he is committed to developing quality in art education. He competes in national and regional juried art competitions yearly as a collage artist. His art form reflects an African American genre and socio-cultural themes. He has exhibited in juried shows locally and nationally including the Black Creativity national juried show, Museum of Science and Industry (Chicago, Ill.), the Water Tower Show (Louisville, Ky.), Alliance of Visual Artists (Nashville, Tn.), Spectrum, Hunter Museum of Art, (Chattanooga, Tn.), and the Parthenon Gallery (Nashville, Tn.). He is an active member of the National Art Education Association and Southeastern College Arts Association where he has presented lectures and papers on multicultural and multiethnic art, women in the arts, and African American Art in art education.
