ART 100. Enameling (III; 3) This course explores the process of designing with glass on metal with an artistic and creative emphasis.
ART 101. Art Fundamentals I (I; 3) This course is designed at an introductory level to explore the basic principles and elements of art. The experiences will emphasize, but not be limited to, creating in black and white.
ART 102. Art Fundamentals II (II; 3) This course is designed at an introductory level to explore the basic principles and elements of art. The experiences will emphasize, but not be limited to, creating in black and white.
ART 103. Art Fundamentals III (III; 3) This course is
designed at an introductory level to explore the basic principles and elements of art. The experiences will emphasize but not be limited to creating in black and white. Lab fee.
ART 120. Drawing I (I; 3) This is an introductory drawing course designed to expose the student to a variety of approaches, techniques, and media used in creative drawing.
ART 121. Drawing II (II; 3) This course is a followup to the Drawing I course gradually increasing in complexity of drawing assignments. Prerequisite: ART 120 or permission of instructor.
ART 122. Drawing III (III; 3) This course is the third in the series of the introductory drawing courses for all first year or new art majors. An increase in complexity of drawing assignments and greater emphasis is placed on creativity as the student progresses from ART 120 to ART 121. Prerequisite: ART 121 or permission of instructor.
ART 200. Jewelry Design (II; 2) This is a course in jewelry design and creation using several basic techniques, including: construction, casting and found objects.
ART 220. Figure Drawing I (I, II; 3) This course is designed to teach beginning work in figure drawing approaches and techniques with the human figure as the primary subject matter. Prerequisites: ART 120, 121, or permission of instructor.
ART 221. Figure Drawing II (II, III; 3) This course is designed to teach advanced work from the human figure. Students are expected to be creative. Prerequisite: ART 220 or permission of instructor.
ART 222. Figure Drawing III (II, III; 3) This is course III in a series of advanced work in figure drawing. The drawing assignments and creative expectations increase with each advancing course in the series. Prerequisite: ART 221 or permission of instructor.
ART 223. Figure Drawing IV (I, III; 3) This course is a continuation of exploring drawing approaches of the human figure. There will be a variety of drawing mediums and styles stressed in the course. Prerequisite: ART 222.
ART 224. Figure Drawing V (II, III; 3) This course is a continuation of creative exploration of approaches to drawing the human figure. Technical skills and diversity of art mediums will be equally stressed. Prerequisite: ART 223 or permission of instructor.
ART 230. Beginning Painting I (I; 3) This course explores creative experiences in oil and related painting mediums. Students will be given extensive studio experiences with emphasis upon various techniques, compositions, framing and exhibition. Illustrated lectures on important modern and contemporary artists and movements are a part of the course.
ART 231. Beginning Painting II (I, II; 3) This is the second in a sequence of two beginning painting courses. It is a continuation of the study of techniques and composition. Prerequisite: ART 230 or permission of instructor.
ART 240. Beginning Sculpture I (II, III; 3) This course is designed to expose the student to some of the basic skills, theories, and techniques in sculpture. The student is encouraged to increase understanding and appreciation of three-dimensional form.
ART 241. Beginning Sculpture II (I, II; 3) This course is designed to build on and advance the student's basic understanding and ability to express in sculptural forms.
ART 250. Introduction to Printmaking I (I, II, 3) This course is an introduction to the techniques of relief print-making. Aspects of additive and subtractive printmaking methods are covered using woodcuts, linocuts, cardboard and others. Prerequisite: ART 240.
ART 251. Introduction to Printmaker II (II, III; 3) This course presents further exploration of traditional and nontraditional techniques of relief printmaking. The course includes color printing in woodcuts, linocuts, cardboard and others.
ART 261. Advertising Design (III; 3) This course presents the basic techniques of lettering and experiences in commercial design. These experiences and techniques are applied in the production of posters, book jackets, packaging, newspaper and magazine advertisements. Students are exposed to rendering techniques in free brush, tempera, pen and ink, and other related media.
ART 262. Layout and Design I (I; 3) This course will focus on the fundamentals of layout and design. Guided work from sketches of the figure, graphics, lettering and fashion will be explored. There will be some field trips to local advertising companies and a portfolio is required.
ART 271. Intermediate Design I (II; 3) This course guides the application of the principles of design and aesthetic factors in the development of two and threedimensional forms. Designs are created in a variety of processes including printing, painting, constructional forms; fabric, and ceramics.
ART 272. Intermediate Design II (II; 3) This course continues the exploration of intermediate design problems. Prerequisite: ART 271.
ART 280. Beginning Ceramics I (I; 3 Even Years) This course is an introduction to the use of clay as a creative material for personal expression. The course will emphasize the basic concepts of wheel throwing, hand construction and glazing of clay forms.
ART 281. Beginning Ceramics II (II; 3 Even Years) This course is an introduction to the crafts of ceramics, with emphasis on the development of skills for the porter's wheel and hand construction. Basis of forming, glazing, and firing techniques.
ART 300. Fabrics (I; 3) This course explores a variety of fabric design techniques, including weaving, stitchery, fabric painting, and applique. Prerequisite: ART 270 or permission of the instructor.
ART 305. Arts Workshop I (I, II, III; 2) This course is an advanced studio course in which the student is encouraged to develop a personal approach to the concept of artmaking by means of specific projects executed and conceived by the student in council with the instructor. Original and creative concepts are stressed. Students will be required to turn in a portfolio which visualizes their ideas. The student is exposed to contemporary trends in art, via slides and discussion. Prerequisite: student must submit a portfolio to be reviewed and approved by art faculty.
ART 309. Arts Workshop II (I, II, III; 2) This coursecontinues the development of a personal approach and concept to art-making. Original ideas and projects are conceived and executed by the student in coordination with instructor, producing a portfolio at the end of the quarter. Professional presentation, matting, mounting, framing, etc., will be explained. Discussion on obtaining exhibitions, gallery contacts, etc., is included. Prerequisites: ART 305, portfolio review and approval of art faculty.
ART 320. Advanced Drawing I (I; 3Third Year) This course provides advanced techniques for figure, still life, and abstract drawings. A variety of media will be explored, i.e. charcoal, pastels, tempera, and ink.
ART 321. Advanced Drawing II (II; 3 Third Year) This course places an emphasis on the figure and the student's concept and approach to drawing. Students will work in a variety of mediums, including pencil, pastel, tempera, and ink.
ART 322. Advanced Drawing III (III; 3 Third Year) This course is structured around a main assignment which is designed to expand the student's range of techniques and sense of possibilities in the making of visual images. A variety of media will be explored. Individual instruction will be given according to the student's interest and ability.
ART 323. Advanced Drawing IV (II, III; 3) This course is designed to assist the advanced student in developing a personal drawing style, while exploring a diversity of subject matter, including: landscaping, figure, still life. Prerequisite: ART 322.
ART 330. Intermediate Painting I (II, III; 3) This course is designed to further study various media of increased complexity. Prerequisite: ART 231.
ART 331. Intermediate Painting II (II; 3) This course is designed for the student to develop the technique of painting the entire figure. Prerequisite: ART 330 or permission of instructor.
ART 340. Intermediate Sculpture I (I, II; 3) This course is designed to further the student's skills, techniques, and creativity in threedimensional art work. Prerequisite: ART 231.
ART 341. Intermediate Sculpture II (I, II; 3) This course provides the opportunity to continue exploring, and personal development in threedimensional art work. Prerequisite: ART 240.
ART 342. Intermediate Sculpture I African Design (I; 3) This course is designed to further the student's skills, techniques, and creativity in threedimensional art work through an exploration of tradition African sculptural forms. Prerequisites: ART 240, 241 or by permission of instructor.
ART 350. Printmaking I (I, ll; 3) This is an introductory course in lithography designed to teach students techniques of drawing and processing procedures for black and white lithography. Ink analysis, shop practices and proper procedures for operation of a lithographic press are covered. Prerequisite: ART 250 or 251.
ART 351. Printmaking II (I, II; 3) This is an intermediate level course in lithography designed to teach students techniques of complex processing in black and white lithography. Print editing and contemporary trends in lithography will be covered. Prerequisite: ART 350.
ART 352. Printmaking III (II, III; 3) This is an advanced course in lithography designed to teach the students techniques of color printing, transfer printing, and reversal methods. Prerequisite: ART 351.
ART 353. Printmaking Workshop I (I, II; 3) This is a beginning course in serigraphy which covers printing for the fine arts. Screen building, various stencil methods, and color mixing are covered. Prerequisite: ART 250 or 251.
ART 354. Printmaking Workshop II (II, III; 3) This is an intermediatelevel course designed to teach contemporary trends in serigraphy. Students will learn print editing and explore various printing surfaces. Prerequisite: ART 360.
ART 365. Introduction to Illustration (I, II, III; 3) This is an introductory course in illustration which allows the student to devote time to studying the fundamentals of drawing, composition, color, harmony, perspective, car-tooning, and the proportions of the human figure.
ART 366. Advertising Procedures and Techniques (I, II, III; 3) This course will cover the necessary steps to prepare artwork for printing reproduction. Ample time will be devoted to studying and using materials that are common to the advertisinggraphics field. Prerequisites: ART 130 and permission of instructor.
ART 370. Interior Design (II; Third Year) The aim of this course is to develop a feeling for fabrics, a flair for color and an innate sense of design. Students build three-dimensional scale models of rooms they design. Students select fabrics, do renderings and follow through on interior decorating project from first conception to finish and swatched model. Prerequisite: ART 271.
ART 372. Fashion Illustration (III; 3 Third Year) This course involves drawing and rendering of fashion figures and fashion accessories. It also provides a knowledge of how to drape materials on a figure form.
ART 373. Design in Photography I (II; 3 Third Year) This course emphasizes creative design through photography. Problems in animation and cartooning will be presented. Prerequisite: IET 250.
ART 380. Intermediate Ceramics I (I; 3 Odd Years) This course continues the student's artistic and technical development in the use of clay as an expressive medium. Lab Fee. Prerequisite: ART 280 or permission of instructor.
ART 381. Intermediate Ceramics II (II; 3 Odd Years) This course involves the continuation of skills development in the use of clay with an emphasis on creativity and originality, wheel throwing, hand construction and glazing.
ART 399. Practicum I (I; II; III; 5) This course is open to art majors only. A laboratory experience of a special advanced topic with an agency or an art studio. An oral presentation of topics of societal interest will be represented by those enrolled. Art majors only.
ART 430. Advanced Painting I (I, II; 3) This course begins to explore advanced levels of painting problems and techniques. Lab Fee. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.
ART 431. Advanced Painting II (I; II; 3) This is course II in this series of advanced painting courses. Prerequisite: ART 430.
ART 432. Advanced Painting III (I; III; 3) This course continues advanced exploration in painting, solving problems in painting while stressing individual creative growth and development. Prerequisite: ART 431.
ART 433. Advanced Painting IV (II; III; 3) This course is an indepth approach to solving traditional and experimental painting problems. It is designed for the advanced student who has command of the basic painting skills and is able to work independently towards developing a personal style, under supervision. Prerequisite: ART 431.
ART 440. Advanced Sculpture I (I; II; 3) This is an advanced course in sculpture which places special emphasis on the development of individual expression. Technique and knowledge are acquired in projects of stone, clay, and plaster. Prerequisite: ART 341.
ART 441. Advanced Sculpture II (I; II; 3) This course will continue to explore creative expression, while refining sculptural techniques and processes. Prerequisite: ART 440.
ART 450. Special Problems in Studio Art (I, II, III; 15) This course offers an opportunity for serious students in drawing, painting, sculpture, and design to work inde-pendently under faculty supervision for further development of their creative potential. Prerequisites: completion of advanced courses in chosen area, senior classification and permission of department.

ART 451. Advanced Printmaking I (I, II; 3) This course is designed for the advanced printmaking student. De-velopment of a print ethic, personal growth and experi-mentation are heavily encouraged as an involvement in the print movement. Prerequisites: ART 352, 362.
ART 452. Advanced Printmaking II (I, II; 3) This course provides an opportuntiy for the student to develop a personal style while continuing to refine printmaking techniques. Prerequisite: ART 451.
ART 453. Advanced Printmaking III (II, III; 3) This course provides an opportunity for the student to develop a personal style while continuing to refine printmaking techniques. Lab Fee. Prerequisite: ART 4S2.
ART 455. Advanced Printmaking Workshop I (I, II; 3) This course requires the student to design a project involving an innovative printmaking process and personal ethic. Prerequisites: ART 352, 362.
ART 475. Internship (I, II, III; 5) This major's only course is designed to give a student an opportunity for an onsite experience with a professional agency, art studio, or artist, while remaining under the guidance of a department faculty advisor. Final evaluation of the internship can include a variety of forms, oral, written, or multimedia.
ART 481. Advanced Ceramics I (II; 3 Third Year) This course is designed for the student who has a strong background and command of the use of clay as a medium. The student will be expected to perform at a high level of technical proficiency as well as explore the use of clay, wheel throwing, and construction, glazing, combining other materials with clay forms.
ART 499. Practicum II (I, II, III; 5) This course is open to art majors with senior standing only. A laboratory experience of a special advanced topic with an agency or an art studio is provided. An oral presentation of society interest will be presented by those enrolled. Art majors only.
