ART 110. Introduction to Art (I; II; III; 3) This course is an approach to the understanding and enjoyment of art involving analysis of media and the elements and principles of visual organization and a survey of style as reflecting different cultural attitudes. Guided exposure to many works of art.
ART 111. History of Ancient and Early European Art (I; 3) The course is a survey of visual arts from prehistoric times through the medieval period.
ART 112. History of Later European Art I (II; III; 3) This course is a study of the art of the Renaissance and PostRenaissance with attention to the influences and differences of the art of the Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque, and Rococo styles.
ART 113. History of Later European Art II (II; III; 3) This is course II in the series of courses on European Art. Prerequisite: ART 112.
ART 114. Arts of Africa (II; 3) This course is a general survey of the arts of Africa with emphasis on the visual and plastic arts. Supplemental information on music, dance, drama, and other cultural influences.
ART 115. African American Art I (II; 3) This is a course that surveys the origin and development of African-American art and artists. Studies of various media, processes and techniques used by the artists. Attention is given to the subject matter and content in the work of African-American artists from a social cultural and education.
ART 116. African American Art II (III; 3) This course is a survey of AfricanAmerican art and artists with an in depth emphasis on the techniques, processes and subject matter reflected in the art. The cultural, social and educational context of the art and artists will be explored and discussed.
ART 214. Arts of Africa II (I; II; 3) This course is a general survey of contemporary arts of Africa. It reviews the structure and function of traditional African arts, with a focus on the development of the arts in Africa from 1900 to present. This course is designed to enrich the student's appreciation and knowledge of the diverse styles of art reflected in the peoples of Africa. Students will explore the interrelatedness of various art forms (music, dance, drama) with the visual arts as a primary focal point.
ART 310. History of Modern and Contemporary Art I (III; 3) This course is an analytical and interpretive study of art movements from the 19th century to the present with emphasis on their significance in relation to contemporary civilization.
ART 311. History of Modern and Contemporary Art II (I, II; 3) This is course II in this series of courses on History of Modern and Contemporary Art. Prerequisite: Art 310.
ART 312. History of Modern and Contemporary Art III (I, II; 3) This is course III in this series of courses on History of Modern and Contemporary Art. Prerequisite: Art 311.
