CLASS PIANO, MUS 1151

Unless you test out of Class Piano (two to four semesters of study), every non-Piano Major will be required to take and pass Class Piano

Requirements for passing out of MUS 1151

Major Scales

  • Hands apart
  • All 12 keys
  • Two octaves

Triads and inversions – broken

  • Hands apart
  • All 12 keys
  • Two octaves

A repertoire piece - beginning lev

Sight reading very easy melodies

Timed Note-reading

Clapping

Transposition - 5-finger pattern

MUSIC THEORY, MUS 1101

The entrance evaluation will be given during Band Camp (the week before school begins) and on the first day of class in MUS 1101.


Graduating in four years requires you to take and pass MUS 1101 the fall semester of your freshman year.  Failing to do so will almost surely delay graduation.


To enter into MUS 1101, be able to proficiently demonstrate the following skills:

  • Dictation of simple, step-wise melodies
  • Sight singing of simple, step-wise melodies
  • Manipulation of music symbols, including the ability to write major scales, as well as notate and identify intervals
