Assistant Professor of Music / Collaborative Pianist
Pianist Nanyi Qiang has established a wide-ranging career spanning chamber musician, soloist, and pedagogue. He is in much demand as a concert artist in solo & chamber recitals and new music concerts throughout the US, Canada, and China. Dr. Qiang has appeared to public acclaim in venues including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (NY), Hahn Hall (Santa Barbara, CA), MacMillan Theater (Toronto, Canada), and Grand Concert Hall at Sichuan Conservatory of Music (Chengdu, China).
A promising soloist, Dr. Qiang recently performed Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with CSU Symphny Orchestra in Dayton. Dr. Qiang was a Collaborative Piano Intern at the prestigious NATS 2017 Intern Program (Toronto). Also an alumnus of Music Academy of the West (2015), he has appeared in numerous music festivals, and he is currently on the piano faculty of Bayview Music Festival, MI.
A strong advocate of new music and technology, Dr. Qiang has been commissioning and performing new music written for Piano and Electronics exclusively. Dr. Qiang also serves on the Board of Directors and plays regularly with “Onethirteen Composers Collective”, a new music organization based in Twin Cities, MN.
Dr. Qiang is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at Central State University, OH. He completed his DMA in Collaborative Piano and Coaching from the University of Minnesota, a BM and a MM in Piano Performance from Sichuan Conservatory of Music (China) and the University of Washington respectively. His teachers include: Lydia Artymiw, Dr. Timothy Lovelace, Craig Sheppard, and Dr. Chenggang Yang.
Most recently he was invited to give guest recitals at Northern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Virginia Tech, Ball State University, Wright State University, Miami University, and Ohio State University.
