Eric Knorr[Back to list] Performing Arts
Eric Knorr is Principal Trumpet with the United States Air Force Band of Flight, Wright- Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, a position he has held since 2001. Prior to that, he was Principal Trumpet of the USAF Heartland of America Band, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. Under Knorr’s leadership, a large brass ensemble called Prism Brass was established. This group was only one of two of its kind in the USAF with the distinction of being the only brass group to include a vocalist and rhythm section, providing dynamic performances across a seven state region. While the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Wright Brass Quintet, he led that group on a deployment to Iraq, Afghanistan, Djibouti, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kyrgystan, and Qatar; performing for US troops, foreign dignitaries and President George W Bush. He has also been featured frequently as a solo artist across the USAF Band career field and can be heard on recordings from the USAF Heartland of America Band and Offutt Brass Quintet, with a new recording from the USAF Band of Flight currently set for release later this year.
Eric received his Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Akron, as well as a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the College of Wooster. Currently, he is near completion of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music. While at CCM, he toured Japan with the critically-acclaimed University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Wind Symphony under the baton of Eugene Corporon and recorded five compact discs on the Klavier Label.
Mr. Knorr is the Adjunct Instructor of High Brass at Central State University and a member of the Wright State University Faculty Brass Quintet as well as a founding member of the Oakwood Brass Quintet. Eric is a highly sought after performer, recitalist and clinician. He has held Principal, Second and Third Trumpet posts with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and is the Principal Trumpet with the Bach Society of Dayton. His other professional credits include the Cincinnati Pops, Cleveland Pops, Omaha Symphony, Akron Symphony, Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra, Springfield Symphony, Lima Symphony, and the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra.
Knorr has shared the stage with some of the most dynamic performing artists of our time, ranging from pops artists such as Natalie Cole and Melissa Manchester, to jazz and classical greats such as Joe Williams, JJ Johnson, Bobby Shew, Vince DiMartino, Mnozil Brass, Lowell Liebermann and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, to name a few.
