Baritone Peter Keates began his musical training at the University of Oklahoma where he studied with tenor Salvatore Champagne.  After completing a bachelor’s degree at OU, he attended the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Professor William McGraw.  Dr. Keates received his Master’s Degree in Voice in 2006 and began working on a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a cognate in vocal pedagogy, completed in 2011.

Dr. Keates has enjoyed success in concert as well as on the operatic stage.  He participated in the Opera Theater and Music Festival in Lucca, Italy, where he sang principal roles in the opera productions in 2004 and 2005.  He has also sung such roles as Colline, in La Boheme, Dr. Dulcamara, in L’Elisir d’amore, Betto and Simone, in Gianni Schicchi, Son Beau Pere, inLe Pauvre Matelot, Re di Scozia, in Ariodante,  Don Magnifico, in La Cenerentola, The Brewer in Comedy on the Bridge, and Leporello, in Don Giovanni.  His concert experience has included solos in Handal’s Messiah, with the Northern Kentucky Chorus; Beethoven’s Mass in C, with the Ashville Symphony and Leporello with Valley Lyric Opera.  Dr. Keates’ concert experience has also included solos in Faure’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Carissimi’s Jephte, and Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass.
