Dr. Carol Bargeron, Associate Professor of History, comes to Central State University from Texas State University, where she inaugurated a systematic program in Middle East history and Arabic language study, as well as taught World Civilization. She specializes in Islamic and Modern Middle East history and will establish those fields of interest within the Department of Humanities at CSU. Dr. Bargeron has published a number of highly regarded research articles in medieval Islamic intellectual history and on the modern Muslim Afro-Arab intellectual, Hasan al-Turabi. Her most current research focusing on identity and the Muslim family is slated for publication in England with Cambridge Scholars' Press. This research also has resulted in several invitations to participate in research conferences in England and Italy. While at Texas State, Dr. Bargeron won two consecutive Excellence in Teaching awards, one of the most prestigious honors given by the College of Liberal Arts. Dr. Bargeron is very pleased to join the faculty and students at Central State University.
